Wireless Mesh Network is very promising and a novel communication technology. The purpose of WMN is to provide broadband access, flexibility, and ease of deployment. Wireless mesh network faces several issues i.e. routing, node deployment and channel assignment. In case of channel assignment there are chances of interference among frequency channels from IEEE 802.11b spectrum that degrade the overall capacity of a network. One of the well-known interference types is Near Hidden interference that is caused by the near hidden terminals in WMN topology. In this paper, Near-hidden interference problem is minimized by proposing an optimal channel assignment model called OCAM. The simulations are conducted with the help of OPNET simulator. The simulation results show that the network capacity of the proposed model gives more effective results over the existing model. The performance of proposed channel assignment scheme OCAM is 10% better than the existing model.
