Recent advancements in artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies have significantly transformed modern cybersecurity infrastructures; however, these intelligent systems remain highly vulnerable to sophisticated adversarial attacks capable of manipulating model behavior, evading detection mechanisms, and compromising critical digital assets. Traditional cybersecurity frameworks and signature-based intrusion detection systems often struggle to identify rapidly evolving adversarial threats due to their limited adaptability, delayed response capability, and dependence on predefined attack patterns. In recent years, Deep Generative Artificial Intelligence models, including Generative Adversarial Networks, Variational Autoencoders, Transformer-based architectures, diffusion models, and Large Language Models, have emerged as powerful solutions for intelligent threat detection, adversarial analysis, anomaly prediction, and adaptive cyber defense. These advanced generative models demonstrate remarkable capabilities in learning complex attack behaviors, generating synthetic threat intelligence, improving adversarial robustness, and enabling automated real-time cybersecurity response mechanisms across dynamic network environments. This review paper presents a comprehensive analysis of recent developments in deep generative AI-based cybersecurity systems for real-time adversarial attack detection, threat analysis, and adaptive defense mechanisms. The study systematically investigates the architectural foundations, operational methodologies, and security applications of modern generative AI techniques in adversarial machine learning environments. Furthermore, the paper critically examines real-time intrusion detection frameworks, intelligent threat hunting systems, automated incident response strategies, explainable AI-based defense models, federated cybersecurity architectures, and self-adaptive autonomous defense systems designed to combat emerging adversarial threats. Comparative analysis of existing state-of-the-art studies is performed based on detection accuracy, response efficiency, computational complexity, robustness, scalability, and practical deployment challenges in real-world cybersecurity ecosystems. In addition, this review highlights major research challenges associated with adversarial robustness, model interpretability, data privacy, computational overhead, zero-day attack mitigation, dataset imbalance, and ethical concerns related to AI-driven cyber defense systems. Finally, the paper discusses promising future research directions involving explainable generative AI, autonomous cyber defense agents, quantum-enhanced AI security, neuromorphic cybersecurity architectures, and next-generation intelligent threat intelligence platforms. The findings of this study demonstrate that deep generative artificial intelligence possesses substantial potential to revolutionize real-time cybersecurity defense by enabling intelligent, adaptive, and autonomous protection mechanisms against increasingly sophisticated adversarial attacks in modern digital infrastructures.
