Abstract

This study explores the significance of media law and ethical communication in journalism education, with a focus on preparing students to navigate legal challenges related to defamation, contempt of court, and privacy rights. In an era of rapid digital dissemination and citizen journalism, journalism students must be equipped with both legal awareness and ethical reasoning to ensure responsible reporting. The paper examines how deficiencies in media law education can lead to professional risks, including legal liability and ethical breaches. It further highlights the importance of integrating practical legal training within journalism curricula, enabling students to critically evaluate the boundaries of free expression while respecting individual dignity and institutional authority. Emphasis is placed on developing competencies that align journalistic practice with constitutional protections, statutory frameworks, and professional codes of ethics. The study argues that effective journalism education must bridge theoretical knowledge with applied legal understanding to produce responsible media professionals capable of handling complex communicative environments. Strengthening this integration fosters accountability, reduces legal conflicts, and enhances public trust in the media.
