Abstract

Overprotective parenting has been increasingly recognized as a significant environmental factor contributing to the development of anxiety disorders in children. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between overprotective parenting and the risk of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in children. A quantitative cross-sectional research design was used, and data were collected from a sample of children aged 10–15 years using standardized instruments, including the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and the GAD-7 scale. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between overprotective parenting and generalized anxiety disorder, indicating that higher levels of parental control are associated with increased anxiety symptoms in children.

Furthermore, the results of regression analysis indicated that overprotective parenting significantly predicts anxiety levels in children. Gender differences were also observed, with female children reporting higher anxiety levels than males. The study highlights the importance of balanced parenting practices that encourage both care and autonomy. The findings suggest that reducing excessive parental control may help in preventing the development of anxiety disorders in children and improving their overall psychological well-being.
