Abstract

The rapid change in the field of education and entrepreneurship has increased the need to introduce pedagogical transformations that enhance the ability to develop cognitive, entrepreneurial ability, and innovative power. Traditional teaching models are often unable to foster the imaginative talents, abilities to solve problems, and flexibility needed in the current knowledge-based economies. In this regard, the current study is an empirical assessment of how blending generative artificial intelligence with design thinking affects the entrepreneurial and innovative abilities of undergraduate students.

The study is conducted on an experimental research design and used a pre-test and post-test control-group study structure. The sample population included 120 undergraduates’ students; they were enrolled in a course on the Department of Management Sciences at the University of Swat, a state-owned institution located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This cohort was randomly divided into either the experimental group where the structured instructional intervention was based on design thinking and is supplemented with generative AI tools or the control group where the instructional intervention was designed standardly. Descriptive statistics, paired-sample t -tests, and independent -sample t -tests were applied to the quantitative results. The findings revealed that students that received the design thinking and generative AI intervention realized statistically significant cognitive development, entrepreneurial capacity, and innovative capability improvements compared to their peers who got the traditional means of teaching.

Results shows that human-oriented design approaches combined with generative artificial intelligence reinforcing higher-level cognitive processes, creativity, identification of opportunities, as well as inventive problem-solving abilities. The present research, as a result, enriches the conceptual framework of technology-enhanced pedagogy since it empirically proves an integrative model that embraces cognitive development, design thinking, and generative AI. In a practical context, the insights acquired in the present paper can serve to inform educators, curriculum, and policy makers with evidence-based recommendations to promote innovation-oriented and entrepreneurship-oriented learning in the context of higher education.
