Abstract

The use of DNA evidence in criminal justice systems worldwide has revolutionized the way crimes are solved and justice is served. In Pakistan, the application of DNA evidence has gained prominence over recent years, providing a scientifically reliable method to link suspects to criminal activities or exonerate the wrongly accused. However, the legal and ethical implications of DNA evidence in Pakistan's criminal justice system remain a subject of significant concern. This paper examines the current legal framework surrounding the use of DNA evidence in Pakistan, its role in criminal investigations, and the ethical challenges it presents. The study highlights key legal principles governing the admissibility of DNA evidence, the challenges of forensic testing, issues of privacy and consent, and the potential for misuse or misinterpretation. Additionally, the paper addresses the cultural and social implications of DNA evidence, particularly in cases involving sexual violence and family disputes, while proposing recommendations for strengthening the legal and ethical framework in Pakistan. By exploring these issues, this paper aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue about improving Pakistan's criminal justice system through the responsible use of DNA evidence.
